A member of my quilt guild is looking for patriotic quilts to display at the North Plains Library this spring. I’m going to enter this table runner / small wall hanging. It would be fun to see my work hanging up in a public display!

Home Decorating
Over the years, I’ve made simple curtains for my house and for a gathering room at church. The simplest versions can still be more personal than something purchased. Here’s what I used to have in the “red room”, using fabric with a great print of salsa dancers!
I’ve also made basic tablecloths and other table runners that are great on tables in and outside. This is one of my favorite pics showing a picnic with my pup Lucy!
Here’s another project I’ve tried making before, but this time had a pattern to follow, so a much improved final product….a potato bag, for microwaving spuds (or tortillas).
Random Gifts and Special Orders
Sometimes it’s the random request “could you make this?” that provides the most fun and chance for creativity.
Quilts and Blankets
I love making quilts for friends and family. It’s fun to pick out the patterns and colors that they might enjoy while practicing new techniques for quilting.
Pillows
Over the years, I’ve made so many pillows and pillowcases…it’s time for a nap!
Wine Theme
Over the year, I’ve made a few items using wine fabrics. The quilt wall hanging/table topper is a gift for my parents but the wine bags and wine coasters are for sale!
Wrist Rests
Since Aaron works all day at his computer, the wrists need to rest somewhere. How about on a rice bag that can later be microwaved to ease sore shoulders too? He picked out the fall fabrics from my stash, and they turned out looking nice.
Christmas Gifts
Merry Christmas! It’s so fun to sew gifts for people!
- A remote control holder for two less-used remotes.
- Sequence Covers
- Tablerunner
- Penguin Potholders
This was made a few years ago, but fun to post it since it was used at Christmas!
Costumes
I love being creative to make costumes….for Halloween, spirit days at school, 5K races, anytime! It’s fun to get a group together for a theme or get your boyfriend to wear lots of eye makeup (it’s necessary to look like a leopard!)
Check out the best group costumes from some past 5K races: Scrabble Tiles, 8 Crayons and a Box, and Dominos.
Here’s some of my favorite duo costumes: Cruella and her Dalmation, the Leopards, and the Starbucks cups.
And a few other costumes using some unconventional materials.
Heart Healthy Charity Quilt
My students at school helped to create “Heart Healthy” quilt blocks after learning hands only CPR from Legacy Emmanuel and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue staff. I put the blocks together in a colorful quilt which was donated to the new Meridian Park Cardiac Rehab facility as a thank you to their staff and as encouragement to their patients.
This was my first time creating a quilt with drawings. We used fabric markers and crayons, which were heat set onto the muslin blocks. I had taped out the area so all blocks looked uniform in size. The piano key border was done by a parent at the school and the great long-arm quilting was done by the staff at Sharon’s Quilt Attic. The batting was even donated thanks to the Warm and Soft Company.
