In 2016, I received a Janome serger as a birthday gift and soon after, had my first baby. Perfect timing to not have as much time to sew, but be motivated to make clothes and other items for him! Now, two years later, I’ve invested in a stash of knit fabrics and have a few favorite sites to buy PDF patterns and fabrics. Check out my blog posts for current projects and once something has been made a few times and is ready for potential sale/gifts to others, it’ll show up here as another item I could customize for you!
Fabrics used in these projects come from:
- Purple Seamstress – great selection of cotton lycra solids/stripes and every so often a great kids print in cotton lycra or double brushed polyester. The owner is very responsive and helpful on Facebook.
- So Sew English fabrics – our names are so similar! they seem to mostly have florals but also great solids and occasionally a fun novelty print. The owners are very responsive and helpful on Facebook. Look for bundles and sales and pay attention to what fits in the box…they work hard to make sure you can maximize your order for the lowest shipping price.
- Bolt – specialty boutique shop in Portland that I’ve only visited once but they have a great selection of Cotton and Steel organic knit, natural fiber knits, and many vibrant colors/patterns to choose from
- Joanns – their interlock knit and “doodle” brand knits have worked well enough for basic kids clothes, but need to be washed twice and adjusted in the pattern due to significant shrinkage
